Have you seen David’s CV in the Bible?

So Saul said to his attendants, “Find someone who plays well and bring him to me.”
One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the lyre. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the Lord is with him.” – 1Sam 16:17-18
The verses of scriptures above are the key points of David’s CV as it were when a vacancy was announced by King Saul.
The first thing that struck me was that immediately they described who they wanted, one of the people standing by said ‘I have seen someone that fits this description’.
Why did he say that? He said I have SEEN him…
The lesson there is that, no matter what you can do, if you are not seen doing it, no one can recommend you.
Many of us wait for the big opportunities to showcase what we can do. We are not willing to start small or even start free.
David probably was doing free shows and of course his first audience was God and the few sheeps. Then people started hearing him play.
The next thing the servant said was that “…he knows how to play the lyre.” This guy is good. He is not a mediocre…he is excellent at what he is doing. As a child of God excellence should be your goal in whatever it is that you are doing.
Let your work speak for you…don’t do a mediocre job because it is just a small job. In that your small business, try as much as possible to give it the best.
As David was playing, he was playing to worship God and the few sheeps. I am sure he was so into it that people nearby will wait around to listen to him.
He was playing to ordinary people excellently and soon someone noticed then gave a recommendation to the king.
The next thing the servant said was that “He is a brave man and a warrior…” He is not timid. He is not a weakling. I am sure he has heard the stories of how he rescued his sheep from the mouth of the lion and the bear. Brave efforts spread fast. Take bold steps…be a warrior at what you do. Be committed to it beyond ordinary.
I learnt from Bishop Oyedepo that even when you are preaching to two people, preach the message like it is going to be your last. Some people don’t give their best till they see the crowd…chai. Be a warrior in that small place that you are.
The next thing he said is that “He speaks well and he is good looking.” If you listen to someone speak for sometime you can know the kind of person they are. NKJV says he was prudent in speech. He speaks with wisdom. He speaks with grace. His mouth isn’t filled with lies and corruption.
Sometime ago someone mentioned that he would like to join our team and one day we were in a very casual place. He didn’t know I was there…he was on a call and he was blasting this big lie to someone. My antenna went up immediately and I kept quiet.
Then I later gave him an opportunity to do something and he messed it up with lies as well.  Listen to what people are not saying when they are speaking and you will know the kind of person they are.
*Speech reflects character*
David was also a good looking man. He wasn’t shabby even though he was in the wilderness. He was someone that they could recommend to the king. Even a seemingly not good looking person will be good looking when they dress well. Do your best with what you have.
And the most important recommendation, “The Lord is with him.” Oh my God! Don’t only be skillful at what you do be anointed. The man needed for the job must be primarily anointed.
I am always amazed especially at some worship leaders and instrumentalists, they spend hours upon hours improving their skill but they don’t spend time in the presence of God. You will see many step out of the church when they are done playing as the message is about to start.
They don’t know what it means to carry the anointing. There is a place for skill but it can never replace the anointing.
Whatever it is you are doing, be fervent in the spirit. When you get to your place of work, spend sometime praying under your breath in the spirit.
David was a man that would play the harp and the evil spirit in another person will run away.
Someone commented after my wife ministered in songs one day in a vigil “It showed that you prepared in prayers.”
Even when we make teaching posts on social media…it is wrapped in many prayers. I was telling some

of our teen mentees, don’t go after being popular…be anointed.
Let your testimony be “that person carries the presence of God.”
Will you like to spend sometime praying in the spirit right now? Lord fervency of the spirit!
