Study: Mathew 4:17-22
We introduced the study on the importance of becoming a disciple of Jesus yesterday. We will continue today, let us read the passage for today again.
Verse 17 says “From that time Jesus began to preach and to say REPENT…”
The first call that a would be disciple of Jesus must respond to is the call to salvation. Jesus isn’t interested in moulding you into a busy religious person but giving you a new life in God.
He desires a relationship with you first before anything. He wants you to pray, pay your tithe, give offering, fast and pray etc but much more importantly the salvation of your soul is paramount in his heart so that you will not end up as a ‘worker of iniquity’.
This is where many are missing it these days, they do all religious activities but their relationship with Christ is no more. They look like it but they are no where to be found.
The gospel of once saved forever saved has deceived many into living a life of lie. They perpetually live in sin and whispering some forgiveness prayer day in day out, they feel that they are still saved.
The scripture is clear, 2 Tim 2:19 says “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, the Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let EVERY one that nameth the name of Christ DEPART from iniquity”
You can justify your stand with scriptures and act all holy outside but one thing stands sure God knows those that are his.
The question now is, are you in tune with God? There is no deceiving anyone you know yourself.
Ask for mercy this day. And for those who are walking closely with Jesus, tell him do not let me fall away. You have started a good work in me, perfect it.
Go ahead and talk to God.
