The definition
The smile on the face of Kunle as he resumed his new job on Monday reflected the awesome weekend he had with Stella.
He never had a boring time when with her. At a point they both switched off their phones and chatted till late in the evening when Stella left his place.
She came back the next day, Sunday, as early as 8am to pick him up in time for the church service which starts by 8:30am.
Stella wore a flowing gown made from purple patterned Ankara with lacy materials in front. Kunle wanted to wear a simple T-shirt and jean but Stella insisted that he must wear Ankara, so he wore the only one he had, a Niger Deltan styled Ankara with gold buttons in front.
The pastor preached on building a good home and a point that stuck to his mind was that “In a good marriage, there are no secrets. When the partners starts keeping secrets, the marriage is heading for disaster”
He is not keeping any secret from Stella except the fact that he wants her to be his wife. He smiled to himself.
He has always been good with girls but he can’t tell why he has not been able to propose to her.
“Proposal shouldn’t be this difficult” he said to himself.
He remembered the story of a popular man of God and smiled.
The man proposed to a sister and said
“God said you will be my wife and she replied ‘God didn’t speak to you because if he did, he would have told you I am engaged”.
A simple “Will you marry me?” Said in a good way without putting pressure on the lady would do as a good proposal but even the simple one he hasn’t been able to say it.
The smiled had disappeared completely from his face by this time. He kept wondering what was going on in the mind of Stella.
He had prayed about it and he feels at his peace with stella but what is the definition of peace test? One can easily be at peace when you are in love but that may not be a confirmation from God to proceed on a decision.
He sighed.
“What if tomorrow Stella introduces a guy to me? He thought.
He didn’t have time to dwell on the question as he was called from the general office to the training room by one of the HR officers.
The managing director and the other new employees were waiting for him when he got there. The MD offered him a seat.
“You are welcome to this company, from today you are now my colleague and you will address me as Mike.
Every orientation and training starts with me. As a new employee, the first thing you must know is the vision of the organization, it is in the vision of the organization that you will derive your own vision for working here.
If you do not understand it well, you cannot function well here. If you don’t make the vision yours, you can’t sell us to our clients and that is why we are paying you. We are all in the business of sales.
It is through our vision that you will know our mission. Our mission is how we want to achieve the vision. What we will be doing daily to make sure we achieve our vision. In this our mission you will also generate your own mission as you work here.
Our core values are the standards we uphold in the journey to achieve our vision. Anyone that refuses to act in line with our values the system vomits automatically, no matter who you are. It is in these our core values that you live your life as an employee of this company.
Our values determine our culture and we treasure it so much. Our culture determines how we relate with one another and also how we relate with clients, regulatory authorities etc, it determines the way we dress, talk etc
These are the key things we will discuss today and at the end of today, you will write out your vision, mission, core values and your culture as an employee in this company.
If your personal vision, mission, values and culture doesn’t fit with ours it will be better to leave. It is not because you are not good enough but just that this environment isn’t for you.
The first rule is loyalty, if you cannot be loyal at any point it is better to leave on a good note than us crash landing you.”
He shared the vision, mission, core values and the culture of the company and by the time the MD finished people were already sweating in an air conditioned room.
It was a tense session and someone whispered that maybe he should reconsider taking up the job.
Sheet of papers were passed round and on it was written “In two sentences, write why you are working in Xcel Communications.”
To be continued…

Incentive brings about craving for more effort to aim at, attain and achieving it. If we can dream it, definately, we can make it work. So tasking it may be though, but with lots of encouragement on our vision and mission, all will surely work out well. Qudos to you OTM!
