Book Study: Romans
Read: Romans 9: 17-29
Have you ever wondered why bad things happen to good people while it seems bad people continue to enjoy good? Some wicked people continue to live to do evil while good people are cut short? Our reading today provides some insight.
Firstly, God has the supreme power to do what he knows that will fit perfectly to his eternal plan. He doesn’t need to consult any man before he acts even though once in a while he does.
Secondly, I see a strong reason in verses 22 and 23. The scriptures says that God endured with longsuffering wicked people(vessels of wrath) because he wanted to show the riches of his glory over the vessels of mercy. When one endures with longsuffering, it means he has all the power to act but he restrains himself because of a greater purpose.
Remember the story of Jesus and Lazarus, when he was sick Jesus didn’t do anything until he had died. Jesus testified that God wanted to take glory in that matter.
What are you passing through today that is making you feel frustrated? Why not change your attitude and prayer, start asking God to take glory over that matter.
But a another matter was raised in verse 17 and 18. There must be a pharaoh, there must be a Judas. God forbid we are one of them.
But being redeemed by the blood of Christ, we are now vessels of His mercy.
We freely enjoy his grace we do not need to work or struggle to get it. It is available for us and as we abide in this calling we shall continue to fit perfectly into God’s agenda.
The scripture called us VESSELS OF MERCY.
Prayer:
Thank God for making you a vessel of His mercy and ask Him “Lord do not take away your merciful eyes from me.”
Challenge: Sow a seed of mercy into someone’s live today.
Do have a great day!
