Study: Luke 9:23-25 and verse 62
Today we will focus on verse 24 and 25 of Luke 9, Jesus stated one major reason why many remain on a spot, never fulfilling the purpose of God for their lives and even backslide. THEY WANT TO SAVE THEIR LIVES. THEY LIVE FOR SELF PRESERVATION.
As I meditate on the two verses, I began to ask myself; my walk with God has it been limited by my desire for self preservation? Has it been limited by my desire to be okay first before any other thing? In what ways am I preserving myself first before obedience to God?
Even a greater challenge, whatever it is that I am doing is it because I want to “gain the whole world” ? But then at what cost? Why do I fast and pray for power? Is it because I want the world to hear my name too?
Why do I advertise or in a more religious way testify about what God is doing through me? Is it because secretly in my heart I desire to let the world know about me too?
Oh Lord have mercy on us! Do you know that as I was asking those questions, I see that many things that we claim to do in the name of God is truly to ‘gain the whole world’.
We have secretly put ourselves on the throne and that is why we compete with another person in our heart. We may not say it out but we secretly want to be better than others.
Verse 25, “For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?”
Will the reason we will miss out on God be that self is still on the throne? Will the reason you will miss heaven be that job, relationship, attitude, friendship, that desire for pleasure? Will the reason God would look away at your own life is because of the ministry you are running?
Go to God tell him “Lord I submit totally to you, let your will be done in my life”
