Understanding God’s Purpose

What is God’s purpose for your life? Is a question that has been discussed over and over in different fora.

Some have clarity while some are very confused about the matter. I am not going into the teachings on it, I just want to help anyone confused or anyone that has missed the point.

Now I am talking to believers.

Forget everything that psychology and similar teachings has taught you. As a believer your purpose is Christ and Christ is your purpose.

The life you now live is the life of Christ.

So to know your purpose, you must know the purpose of Christ. If the life you now live is the life of Christ then it means that Christ must fulfil His purpose in you.

Your ambition is a sacrifice on the altar of your relationship with Christ. Nothing temporal can be your life pursuit anymore.

Now this doesn’t mean you don’t have a career or a business, you don’t study as a student…NO. It only means that everything you are and have is a tool to further the purpose of who you are — A NEW CREATION IN CHRIST JESUS.

Christ lives in you now. In Him you live, you move and have your being.

As a wise believer then you must examine the life of Christ to determine His purpose them commit to it.

Like Paul, your declaration must be “For me to live is Christ…”

Let us examine some scriptures to determine our living in Christ.

John 4:34-35 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

Matthew 18:11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

So we can see clearly from just 3 scriptures that Christ came to do the will of God which is to save the lost.

Them when he was about to leave, he gave us a commandment;

Mark 16:15-16 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

So we can see clearly again that if his purpose is to save the lost and he gave us the same instruction to preach the gospel and be his witness, then it means that what we are to live for is to carry out the instructions he gave us.

If our life is Christ then we are living to fulfill His purpose on earth.

Who we are or what we have is to this singular purpose — to preach the gospel.

So the question of what is God’s purpose for my life shouldn’t be an ultimate search for it is written in the word. It is as I fulfil this that I can be brought by God into specific areas of assignment.

We can now see the reason Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel

It is not an opinion, it is a command.

Some people have coined all kinds of vision for themselves and the only thing you can see in there is SELF… desires of the flesh.

You can’t find meaning outside Christ.

You can do all the good works but if it isn’t about Christ it doesn’t count for eternity.

Of what use is delivering someone from demons and the fellow still end up in hell? Of what use is gaining the whole world and missing the main reason God kept you here after being saved?

This is God’s purpose for your life and you better get on with it.

How many souls can you say that the Spirit of God used you to lead into the kingdom? How much have you committed yourself to this life mission?

If you are to count your achievements for the past five years, will it include souls that Lord has used you to lead into the kingdom or it will just be works that even an unbeliever can do better than you? Will it be things that are satisfying your flesh?

Reflect.

Philippians 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
