The Cross

“Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father save me from this hour; but for this cause came I unto this hour.” John 12: 27

If you have read the account of Jesus’s trial and death with the intention of trying to feel what he went through, you will know that it wasn’t easy for him at all. Jesus foresaw it and became troubled in his soul. He saw all the jesting, the beating, the nailing and prayed “Father save me from this hour”.

In the garden of Gethsemane,he also prayed that the father should make the cup pass over him. It was such an agony in the spirit for him. He saw the cross and prayed the father for an alternative but he also said “…for this cause came I unto this hour.”

Even his father seemed to have looked away when the perfect sacrifice was offered and I can imagine the agony. He has never felt the absence of the father, their communion was so close that per time that Jesus even said “If you have seen me you have seen my father.”

I can even imagine the agony of the father also when the perfect sacrifice was being offered. Infinite in mercy, grace and love but he couldn’t do anything at this time because it was for a greater good. It is like a father seeing his son being punished for an offence he didn’t commit.

Sometimes also we go through challenges and difficulties because we are standing in the place of purpose and we cry in agony that God should save us but God looks at us and instead wrap his comfort around us. He seems to be very far away yet he is very near but for our greater good he will let us pass through it.

He is acting out of his love for us not because he wants us to suffer.

It is not always because of sin that we face difficulties, they may just be paths that we may need to pass through if we intend to fulfill God’s purpose for our lives.

Paul had options not to go to Jerusalem but he knew where Christ was taking him–so not going was not an option to consider because he knew for him to finish the race well, he had to go through Jerusalem.

What is your own cross today? Where is your own Jerusalem today that you must go through.

You should know that the story of Jesus didn’t end on the cross, he came back to life on the third day gloriously and angels touched earth to celebrate his resurrection.

You will also come out gloriously, stay put on the journey, do not look back.

I pray with you, may God’s grace be sufficient for you. May you receive the comfort of God as you walk to fulfill God’s purpose for you life. May God’s glory be made manifest in your life. In Jesus name.

Shalom!
