Many years ago I saw this quote that is one of the mottos of Facebook for its employees “Doing is better than perfect”
That quote changed my life.
I am very analytical. I always run through anything I want to do in my brain first before I do. I want to dot the ‘i’s and cross all the ‘t’s …I am sure many of us know what is called “analysis paralysis”
Well, look at this definition from wikipedia “Analysis paralysis describes an individual or group process when overanalyzing or overthinking a situation can cause forward motion or decision-making to become “paralyzed”, meaning that no solution or course of action is decided upon.”
In plain English, you OVER THINK and then at the end of it all, you don’t do anything because you have seen all the reasons why you can’t do it.
So I got delivered by that quote “Doing is better than perfect” while we must strive to put the best, the most excellent out there at all times but never fall for “Until it is perfect, there is no doing.” Many dreams have died along this path.
What you should commit to is doing your possible best and then commit to continuous improvement.
What is that thing you have always wanted to do that you haven’t done because it is not perfect? Well it may never get perfect until you do it. Do your possible best at this time and commit to improvement.
If you wait all the time for the perfect, you may never move.
Like Nike says “Just do it” and I add then “commit to improvement.”
7 days to go….
