“And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons.”
Gen 3:7
So these guys messed up and did what God commanded them not to do.
Immediately the KNEW they were naked…
Sin brings nakedness…but what did they do about it? They sewed to themselves aprons from fig leaves.
Fig leaves are artificial covering to cloak the real problem. So you see many people are ‘cloaking’ the real issue in their life with religious activity; they fast and pray, give and sow, become workers in church etc
But when God calls out… ‘Where are you?” They run into hiding and they say ‘I am naked, so I hid myself”
#I thought they were covered with fig leaves#
Brethren, fig leaves can’t cover the spiritual state of your life. Right in your heart you know it, all these religious activity are make ups…that cannot stand the test of time.
You cannot make up your spiritual state. God can see you as you are even the devil can see you as well.
#Let me run fast to where I am going, this is not a comprehensive treatise#
Gen 3:21..”Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skin, and clothed them.”
Even though Adam and Eve made aprons for themselves but God saw that it can’t cover their nakedness.
God who is plenteous in mercy and love even though he had judged them here made coats of skin for them.
A type of the finished work of Christ.
Before God could get the coats of skin, an animal would have been killed.
This is a sacrifice…a shadow of what Christ did for us.
The only thing that can cover our nakedness of sin is the coat of skin from the sacrifice that Christ did on our behalf.
Even though God frowns at sin but he has made a coat of skin for us in Christ. His love is amazing.
We can come to him and say father clothe me with this righteousness of Christ.
No amount of fig leaves of abiding to the law or religious activities can cover our nakedness, it is only the coat of skin from Christ.
“I am crucified with Christ nevertheless I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by FAITH OF THE SON OF GOD, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Gal 2:20
He gave himself for me! I have allowed him to cover me with his coat of skin of righteousness.
“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him. Rooted and built up in Him and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.” Colosians 2:6-7
I can’t live after the flesh anymore, I must walk after the spirit. That is the means which he has set for me for a perpetual victorious life. As long as I walk after the spirit, I am assured of victory.
“This I say then, walk in the spirit and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh” Gal 5:16
“And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.”
“IF WE LIVE IN THE SPIRIT, LET US ALSO WALK IN THE SPIRIT.” Gal 5:24-25
A walking is required from me, I cannot claim I live in the spirit if I don’t walk in the spirit.
Amazing! Isn’t it?
Drop those fig leaves and embrace the coat of skin from Christ!
God bless you.
