So this thought came to mind from a question someone asked “It looks like I am not growing spiritually, what can i do?”
Growth takes time, give it time.
When a seed is planted, you don’t come the next morning and expect to see fruits.
You give it time.
The things to do during this period is to nurture.
When a seed is planted, you water and weed it regularly. If the ground need fertilizer, you put it but you don’t leave it alone and expect growth.
So if you have recently come to know Christ, nurture that seed by putting yourself deliberately in an environment that will nurture the seed.
This is the main reason for joining a Bible teaching church. Seat down and learn, ask questions and practice what you are learning.
Practice is so important. This is the omission a lot of people have. They learn and learn but never practice.
If you are taught “faith” look for an opportunity to practice it.
If you are taught witnessing, go out and witness.
Try it out! The goal of your learning is not just to educate you in Bible knowledge, it is to transform you.
Try it and try it until you master it and it works.
Then develop a daily walk with God. Never let your walk with God be spontaneous or weekly. As much as being spontaneous is exciting, growth is never spontaneous. It is little by little. Here and there.
Look at your current physical stature, how do you grow to become this big from being a baby? It wasn’t spontaneous, it was a daily thing.
As God’s mercy are new every morning, so must be your walk as well. You give him attention daily and you will realize that many things are dropping off your life.
Weeds will choke your walk with God that is why you will need to continually weed out everything that doesn’t support your growth and plant new seeds in its place.
So you don’t fight weeds, you uproot, plant new seeds and nurture the new seeds.
Another thing I will like to share is, nurture your passion.
Your passion and zeal for the things of God must be deliberately nurtured. Don’t settle into a life of boring programs and activities. One way to do this is to be involved in any activity that will make you reach more souls for Jesus.
Go on a mission, pray for the sick, visit the prison, hospital etc…whatever opportunity you have to keep the fire burning. Surround yourself with people of same desire to burn for God.
Prayerfully ask in prayers what God will like you to commit your life to do and while you are watching out for the leading of God, do whatsoever your hand finds to do.
Don’t define your life too early, be content to be just a believer. Calling yourself prophet, evangelist, Apostle etc is very unnecessary…let God be the one to define you and let people confirm it.
There is no special place for title holders in heaven.
Let me also say to you that there are times you will feel dry and like you are not growing, don’t despair, it happens to the best of us. I must tell you it is not a correct feeling, your growth is ongoing, it doesn’t have to be dramatic. There are days that you won’t feel like it but it is there. It is not everything time the sun shines brightly but we know it is there right?
What you need to do at this time is to keep at your daily practice, read your Bible and pray. Also listen to messages and worship songs. Enjoy fellowship with the Holy Spirit.
If you have the opportunity, go for a retreat or a conference where the word of God is taught and things of the Spirit of God is given free course. Put yourself in this atmosphere deliberately. Stir up yourself.
If peradventure you find yourself in some sin, be quick to repent and move on into your walk with God. Don’t excuse sin and just ignore it like it doesn’t matter. This is how many heart have become hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. Keep your heart tender.
However don’t give in to guilt and condemnation. There is therefore now, no condemnation. Satan wants to guilt trip you that you failed and that maybe you are not even saved…but tell him, this is a matter between father and child, third party is not invited…fire up more in God. God wants to help you more than you desire to be helped. So he is on your side and not against you.
Now give attention to this, you are as supernatural as you can be right now! If you do not see visions or hear audible voice, you have the inner witness within you and that is more than enough. Train yourself to recognize the leading of God through the inward witness.
Finally, let me say, help another person to grow, the more you help others, the more you will grow.
