Dirts and Diamond

Stella was not too excited about the dinner at Margaret’s place, she was planning to sleep early because she went to work on Saturday but she had already given her word to Kunle and besides he won’t take no for an answer.

She had not been herself for some days now and Kunle that used to be her confidant didn’t even notice.

She entered the bathroom and her mind went back to what happened on Saturday at work. She had wanted to call Kunle immediately but just decided against it.

Since Kunle got his new job, they have not been discussing personal things only work things. His favorite topic is Margaret.

“Margaret this, Margaret that…now I am meeting the Margaret tonight.” She hissed.

“This is a bad day to meet a new person, maybe I should call up Kunle and apologize that I won’t be able to make it.”
She said to herself.

After spending about ten minutes in the bath she came out, her beautiful skin looking radiant but she was unhappy. She dressed up and looked in the mirror.

Memories of what happened flooded her mind again.

She had gone about her work with full vigor until the director for human resources called her into his office. She had noticed that the man was behaving funny to her, always looking for opportunity to touch her and stuff.

Initially because he was an elderly person she didn’t take it serious. Until the day he told her that when both of them are alone she should stop calling him director but Tade.
She was shocked and told him that was improper but he waved it aside.

When she entered his office, he started sweet talking her and was going towards the door to lock up, she got angry and shouted at him.

“If you dare lock that door you will regret the day you were born. What rubbish! So you are one of those people that harass ladies at work and you will come to orientation for new staff preaching morality.
Sir, let this be the last time you will ever try this with me. If you have been doing it with others and you have been getting away with it, with me you will regret it. Rubbish” She barked at him.

She shoved him aside and opened the door to leave but he held the door firm and said

“Stella we will see who will live to regret this between us. Get out of my office!”

“We shall see then” she replied and stormed out of his office.

Since then she had been thinking of what to do. If she reports no one will believe her.
Not even in her company that the Chairman does nothing but attend board meetings once in a while and sleep with University girls all around town.

Only God knows how many ladies are victim of sexual harassment at work places and it is so unfortunate that there is no form of protection for them.

She heaved and said “I can’t be a victim, I am a victor. I don’t take B.S from anyone. I will rather leave the job than allow one stupid man to molest me. I determine my joy..I am going out this evening and enjoying myself to the fullest.”

She managed a smile, picked up her phone and called Kunle.

Margaret’s place shone with brilliance of a meticulous person. Everything was in place. A dim light from the chandelier gave an ambiance of shooting stars.

“Brilliant..awesome…this is beautiful. You have a very tush place o Margaret” Kunle commented

“Thank you dear and she must be Stella.” Margaret replied.

“Oh sorry for my manners. The majestic ambiance distracted me. Meet my lovely friend of many years, Stella. Stella meet my boss, Margaret.”

“Oh stop that, Stella I am just a colleague. It is a pleasure meeting you, I have a heard a lot about.” Margaret said.

“Really? I have a lot about you too.” Stella replied.

Margaret offered them seats and apologized that her fiance is running late.

“Wine or fresh blended fruit juice?” She asked.

“Fruit juice sounds exciting. I will have that. What about you my dear? You are taking same shey?” Kunle said winking at Stella.

“Naughty boy…no. Water will do Margaret.” Stella replied.

“Why now? I made it myself. It has no sugar or any additives whatsoever. Margaret said.

“Bring it for her jare. If she doesn’t take it I will feed her.” Kunle commented.

“Unserious element, Margaret no problem. I will take it.”

Soon Emeka joined them apologizing for coming late. Dinner was served and they discussed topics ranging from politics to fashion to sports etc

Kunle casually passed a covered ceramic bowl to Stella telling her to take some snails,knowing she loves eating snail.

Margaret looked at him, snail? Kunle winked at her.

Stella excitedly took the bowl and opened it.

The excitement on her face turned to shock, right there in the bowl was a diamond engagement ring.

Kunle stood up and said “You have a been a good friend to me. Your commitment is unmatched, I want to spend the rest of my life with you as your friend and husband. Stella will you marry me?”
