1. Let us talk about #TheRoadOfDiscipleship: I have questioned over and over ‘what produced this generation of Christians?’ #Christ #Jesus
2. What is producing the next generation of Christians? We have seen a gradual decline in the quality of christians. #TheRoadOfDiscipleship
3. Getting people to raise up their hands to make decisions for #Christ at programmes has become counterproductive. #TheRoadOfDiscipleship
4.How did the practise start anyway? People have raised up their hands like 100 times yet they are still deep in sin.
5. I haven’t read it anywhere in the Bible that Jesus or the apostles asked people to raise up their hands to be saved.
6. Maybe it used to be helpful before now but I feel it is time we try something else. Following it closely is church membership.
7. How does registering as a church member translate to being saved? We now have schools that you can go to become saved even when there isn’t change in lifestyle.
8. We even have schools that can teach you how to speak in tongues so you don’t really need the one from the Holy Spirit.
9. Another one that has been misused is baptism. It has also become a certificate for church membership, qualification for church positions and qualification to be buried in case of death.
10. You also earn salvation if you are baptised. I used to think baptism is a form of identification with Christ but it is now for associating with a church.
11a. You are baptised in a church by immersion, you changed church you get baptised again.”OUR OWN” is the holiest syndrome.
11b. People enter water has a dry sinner and come out as a wet sinner. What is the essence of baptism as we practise it today?
12. There was a time when you get saved, you can’t keep it to yourself so you are out there witnessing but today, you hide it.
13. There was a time an ordinary brother or sister in the church is ready to die for their faith but today we cannot even live for the faith talkless of dying.
14. It is all about fun and socialising now. So we only preach what will excite them, keep them coming, give offerings, pay tithe and sow into the MOG’s life.
15. Then there is the gospel that makes you talk about sin more than you talk of the risen Christ. It teaches you to earn your salvation by working it out.
16. It paints God as having a big hammer ready to break your head if you just make the mistake of putting your hand in sin.
17. They now have a new list of thou shall nots. My fav one is thou shall not use weave on but you can use rubber. Lolzz
18. All their funny ‘thou shall not’ are usually backed up by one return trip to heaven and hell in a cozy angelic first class flight.
19. Also on the other side is the people that only believe that you don’t have a responsibility anymore after you put your faith in the grace of Christ.
20. These group though correct in principle but wrong in practice, some take this to the extreme and this is the bane of raise up your hand, say after me type of salvation.
21. You raise up your hand and say after him then some minutes later the fellow is deep in sin and you say that is not a problem, he is already saved.
22. There is a thin line between error and doctrine. Don’t cross to the extreme.
23. There is another group that just argues about anything. All they try to do is disprove everything you know about Christ and confuse you the more.
24. They are sound intellectually so it sounds convincing. My advice for everyone against this group is to please stick to the basics of your faith and leave the rest to Jesus when you see Him.
25. Lot of questions on my mind as to what produced our generation and what is producing the next generation after us.
26. So how did Jesus witnessed and raised men/women that stood the test of trials and time?
27. Going through the gospels, you will see Christ say ‘Follow me and I will make you.”
28. And as many that followed him, he made them. His focus was teaching them at a close range and thereby passing His life into them.
29. This is the most effective way to raise men and women that can stand the test of time. DISCIPLESHIP
30. Jesus never organised any special discipleship class(nothing wrong with the classes) but he utilised every opportunity he had to disciple men.
31. He knew that their eternity depended on it. So every opportunity he had to teach them, he presented to them the kingdom.
31b. If we look at all the ‘mighty’ crusades and healing services that were held in years past, though good in themselves, they have produced very little lasting result because the focus has been on the ‘carrot’ that gathered the people not Christ.
32. The carrot may be healing, miracles, deliverance, prosperity, breakthrough, leadership or business skills etc while these brings in the crowd, they don’t keep them standing.
33. Everytime we gather people for such we must deliberately bring Christ to them and call them to discipleship. We cannot continually dangle carrot always before people.
33b. There is need for a concerted effort to raise true disciples of Christ in every sector of life. People whose purpose in life is to make more disciples for Christ.
34. This is how Christ made men. Next series, we will be looking at #TheRoadOfDiscipleship in practice.
35. Parting thoughts…Christ is still saying “Go ye therefore into all the worlds and make disciples…”Matt 28:19 NiV
I will love to hear your thoughts on discipleship, feel free to share with me and others.
