Study: Mathew 12:43-45
Before giving our life to Christ, we are at the mercy of any spirit that we are exposed to, there can never be a void in a man’s life.
When we become born again however and become baptised in the Holy Spirit, any other spirit that we were exposed to are sent packing as the Holy Spirit and the demons cannot dwell together in the vessel.
However many people’s lifestyle, commitments, association,family etc can give a demon a legal right to struggle with the Spirit of God in them.
Hence after being born again it is important that we cut off every link that we have with those spirits and lay hold unto the covenant in the blood of Jesus. This is the deliverance process.
After we have done these then we must abide in Christ not to reactivate an evil covenant.
We have some two extreme views about deliverance; some people say deliverance is not required as you have given your life to Christ while others said you have to keep going for deliverance as you are exposed to demons now and again in our daily affairs.
The two views are extreme and wrong.
I will give a practical example to correct the first view; we ministered unto a brother sometime ago, he gave his life to Christ and we prayed for him to be baptised in the Holy Ghost,he was baptised in the Holy Spirit.
As we continued praying for him , the Spirit of God was nudging me that there was still something else that needed to be done for him. I didn’t know what it was, I just knew by the Spirit of God that something was amiss.
So I asked him, he kept quiet and later said if he speaks about it he will die within seven days. Immediately we knew that was what the Spirit of God was saying.
We showed him the scriptures on his right as a child of God and encouraged him to believe what the word of God said and after much persuasion (because this was a matter of life and death).
He obliged and said he was involved in money rituals at a point in his life but backed out before the completion of the sacrifice and the witch doctor told him that if he opens his mouth to tell anybody he will die within seven days.
We showed him the scripture again about destroying evil covenants and we prayed a simple prayer of deliverance for him and that was it.
Seven days later when nothing happened to him,he was free indeed and fully rested in the saving power of Jesus. He went on to be a minister in the house of God.
This experience is an example that sometime past acts can still hold a man captive, there is a legal right that must be destroyed by the power in the blood of Jesus.
Legal rights are spiritual realities as it operates in the kingdom of heaven so it does also in the devil’s kingdom.
However the power of God, the blood of Jesus, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is superior to any legal right that the devil may have but the person involved may need to cooperate with God to help him.
Many times God acts in mercy and sends the devil packing but if the fellow doesn’t cooperate with God he will become bound again.
Prayer:
1. I plead the blood of Jesus over my spirit, soul and body.
2. Lord I break every legal right the devil has over me, in your mercy deliver me completely.
