The Threshing Floor Bible Studies Study Focus: Steps to Spiritual Maturity Topic: The disciple (3)

Study: Mathew 4:17-22

We continue our study of Matt 4:17-22, as we focus on becoming a disciple as God’s perfect pattern in growing into spiritual maturity, do read the passage if you haven’t and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to your personally.

Verse 18, Jesus saw two brothers casting their nets and he called them. There were many fishermen by the sea of Galilee that day(he later called two other brothers) but his desire was on these brethren that were casting their nets into the sea.

Jesus saw a greater destiny ahead of them but they were busy casting net to catch fishes. They thought that was all there is to their lives but God had a different agenda for them.

Do you know that there is more to your life than ‘casting nets’? God, when he created you, saved you from sin, desires that you align yourself to His grand purpose on earth.

Your life is no more yours anymore. Do you know the purpose of God for your life and are you walking faithfully in it? Wherever God has placed you, are you working the will of the father there? Or you are still busy ‘casting nets’?

Then verse 19, Jesus said FOLLOW ME.

A wonderful call that is still open today. I hear God calling someone ‘follow me’. Don’t follow your own way, don’t follow your own pastor, don’t follow the world FOLLOW ME.

It is only in God that you can truly enter into your destiny. It isn’t about becoming a Pastor, it is functioning in God’s mandate for your life wherever he has placed you.

Have you heard the call? Have you heeded the call? Stop casting nets, don’t allow the devil to corrupt God’s gifts in your life. FOLLOW ME that is Christ’s call this day.

God doesn’t do anything without a purpose. If men fails they will be replaced but the purpose of God stands.

Pray, Lord let me not be replaced in destiny I will follow and obey you till the very end.
