The Threshing Floor Bible Studies Study Focus: Steps to Spiritual Maturity Topic: The disciple’s Acts(1) Sub-Topic: Obedience

Study: John 8:30-31

30As he spake these words, many believed on him.
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

As we round up the disciple’s response, attitude and lifestyle in the previous study we begin the acts of the disciples.

Today we will be looking at OBEDIENCE as the first act of the disciple. You cannot claim that you are following someone and disobey his word.

In the scripture we read, John 8:30-31, as Jesus spoke many believed but then he added “IF YE CONTINUE IN MY WORD,THEN YE ARE MY DISCIPLES INDEED.”

There are disciples and there are disciples INDEED. INDEED is a combination of two words ‘IN’ and ‘DEED’ and deed simply means acts or action. So you can say that Jesus said ‘if ye continue in my word then ye are my disciples IN ACTION. It is only those that obey in action that are true disciples.

Anyone can claim to be a christian but if it is not reflected in your action then you are not. Mathew 3:8 says “Bring forth fruit meet for repentance”

You have repented, accepted Jesus as your Lord and saviour and you want to go on to discipleship with him? Commit yourself to be a disciple INDEED or IN ACTION.

God is calling you to a higher life, a life of obedience. We will continue next time.

Action point: Where do I need to obey God today? Go ahead and do it without delay.
