The Threshing Floor Bible Studies Study Focus: Steps to Spiritual Maturity Topic: The disciple’s lifestyle (2)

Study: Luke 9:23-25 and verse 62

We are looking at the disciple’s life style, today we will go forward in our study of our focal passage, Luke 9:23-25.

One major thing that differentiates the disciple is the fact that his life is one of denial. This is the first issue Christ brings to confront any man that desires to come after him. “…LET HIM DENY HIMSELF..” vs 23.

Note that Jesus didn’t say God will deny him, he said “Let HIM deny HIMSELF..” This is a very deep point that is worth meditating on. What should I deny myself for me to enjoy a closer walk with God? It is not because it is bad or a sin but it is just that without it I will walk more closely with Christ.

What do I need to deny myself to enter fully into God’s plan for my life? What do I need to lay on the altar? I have someone close to me that doesn’t use any jewellery because it was required of her. It doesn’t mean the jewellery is sinful it is just a call to denial for her.
Note: denial doesn’t save you, it is allows you to draw closer to God.

To some of you it will just be to switch off the TV for a while, to drop some friends, to go on that mission for God, to give up your right etc. Whatever it may be for you to grow spiritually, you must deny yourself and follow Him

The rich young ruler couldn’t, he turned back and left. Will you?

Prayer: Lord my life is a sacrifice I will walk with you, do whatever it takes to draw close to you.
