Can you handle being blessed?

Gen.9.20 – 21 “After the Flood, Noah became a farmer and planted a vineyard. One day he became drunk on some wine he had made and lay naked in his tent.”

After all the troubles of building the ark, managing the animals and surviving the flood, Noah and his sons finally came out. They started a new life, he became a farmer and planted vineyards.

The vineyard yielded very well and he made wine from the vine. I guess it was so sweet, he took one extra cup after another till he got drunk.

How many people have been in lack and when finally they are blessed financially started getting drunk on the money they now have?

Before the wealth came, they were devoted but the presence of the wealth revealed what was actually in their heart. So people claim to be humble today because they don’t have money and power, let them taste a little of it, their true character will be revealed.

Can you handle being blessed? When abundance come your way, do you have the capacity to manage it without it damaging who you are?

We see youths nowadays who suddenly come into money through dubious means, you see how they spend the money and how their lifestyle is…it shows lack of capacity, it shows lack of a sense of mission.

When you don’t have capacity for what you have in your hand, what you have in your hand will crush you. It is not what you have that is actually wrong, it is that you can’t handle being blessed.

I was sharing somewhere that some people will not come to church regularly if they have some millions in their account, it shows lack of capacity…it shows that they don’t have the right understanding about what money is.

Money is a tool to use to prosecute our lives, further the purposes of God and help humanity. Outside of this is vanity…you will only get drunk on the money that you have.

Test yourself, think about the first two things you will buy if someone gives you say $50,000 dollars. Your sincere answer will show you a picture of what your thought pattern is like.

A child thinks about what to consume, a matured person thinks about how to save, multiply and bless others.

If you will be able to handle being blessed, you have to develop a sense of mission for the blessing God is bringing into your life.

Know what and where you are going to be channeling the blessing in your life even before it comes.

Also, understand that you are a steward of the blessings of God in your life and He must have access to it anytime He requires. When there is nothing too big or too small to release when God requires it, then you are ready.

Next one is, understand how to manage the present resources that you have without going neck deep into debt. Living within (a little below) your means. There are some legitimate needs that you have but they don’t determine your survival, look away from them, as you grow they will flow into your life. Don’t live your life as a beggar and debtor.

Finally, when you understand that you are blessed as a child of God and this blessing is not determined by money but by your identity in Christ, anything that comes into your life doesn’t change your identity, it will however naturally become a tool to prosecute your life, further the purposes of God and bless humanity.
