RUNNING THE RACE OF DESTINY(1)

Joshua 13:1  “Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the Lord said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.”

When the ancient of days says to a man that he is old, that man is really old. But our interest is not in the fact that Joshua was old but a matter that we must seek God’s help over.

Let us back track to some years back, many years ago God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt into the promise land and on the way the people frustrated him and eventually made him make a silly mistake that prevented him from entering the promise land. He was “retrenched” by God and was asked to handover to Joshua.

Joshua was commissioned to complete the mission, he did well. The list of kings he was able to defeat was listed in Joshua 12. He covered a lot of ground and had the desire to do more but God came around again and said “You have done well but you are old and stricken in age…change of assignment!”

His doing well wasn’t enough to complete the assignment and the assignment was modified. God said he will do the rest himself.

A sign of relief you say? Some Israelites may have thought so too but it was a commitment from God that put the responsibility of possessing the promise back into the hands of each tribe.

But before we go into all that let us look at some important lessons from the journeys of Moses and Joshua.

1. Total obedience is required to fulfill God’s plan for one’s life, if you must go then you must be ready to obey to the letter.

2. Total commitment: If you must go then you must be ready to go all the way. No second option.

3. Total dependence on divine wisdom: the good way may not be God’s way. Find out how He wants you to go…the ‘what, where and how’ are the keys that you must receive from God.

4. Your body: the fact that your spirit must rule your flesh doesn’t mean that you should kill your body. Your spirit needs a vehicle and that is why God gave you a body.

You are responsible for taking care of your body. Joshua fought battles all his life his strength failed at some point and God said “Son you are old and stricken in age..”

5. Mind your business: Focus is important, it is not your business how someone else is doing their assignment, wrong or right is not your concern. Do it as God as led you. Some people have turned their God given mandate to ministry of debate and criticism. Mind your business!

In what areas do you need to make changes for you to be able to enter fully into God’s purpose for your life?

To be continued…
