The Game Changers (Pt 7) – Of friends, proposals and lovers (special edition)

Of friends, proposals and lovers

As a younger lady in the fellowship in school, Stella had heard stories of “sisters in the Lord” having up to five guys proposing to them and all claiming God spoke to them.

She had prayed then that God should bring the right person the first time to save her the headache of making the right choice but now she is to choose among three great guys and who knows many may still be on their way.

Within two months, three of her friends had proposed to her, Kunle being the latest. No doubt she loved Kunle and he had always been the one everyone thought she was dating.

Somehow discussions about relationship was sacred between the two of them probably because they secretly hoped that they will be together at the end.
He had proposed now but she wasn’t so sure again.

She had always feared the day that he would introduce another person to her as his girlfriend but it is official Kunle has proposed.

There is Ovie, a childhood friend of hers. She smiled when she remembered a very funny scenario. As kids, Ovie told her one day in front of her parent
“Stella, when we grow up will you be my wife? I will love you like my daddy love my mummy.”

Since then he had been called her husband until she met Kunle.

Ovie returned from the US after his academics and got a very good job in Lagos. They reconnected about a year ago and he proposed to her two months ago.

There is also Fredrick, a highly spiritual brother. Whose proposal on a normal day will get Stella angry but instead made her smile, in fact she almost laughed at him.

They work together in the same company, he invited her to lunch one day and said ” Stella, the Lord reveal to me in the vision of the night and said ‘Stella shall be thy helpmeet’ ”

Stella smiled and almost asked “God didn’t put ‘selah’ at the end?”

She didn’t bother praying about him even though aside the proposal thing he is a lovely guy and someone any woman will be proud to have as husband. He loves God, works hard and disciplined.

Her mentor counseled her to pray about him too and not bother about the way he proposed, saying until she hears from God she shouldn’t rule any child of God out.

She remembered what her Pastor used to say “It is not when you want to hear God about marital choice that you should be praying that God should speak to you. You should learn from other common things”

“But this is just special” She said to herself. “This is one person you will live with forever and with the rate of divorce in the church on the high side these days one can’t joke with such decisions”

Her mentor had advised her some years ago that she must pray and also take responsibility to work on herself.

“Isn’t it a fact that there are many unbelievers that have happy marriages and many believers enduring their marriages?
Christians usually neglect the part of the Bible that’s says ‘it is by wisdom a house is built and by understanding it is established’.
So we pray and refuse to work on our character. Prayer is an edge that the christian has, it doesn’t replaces responsibility.

Even if God spoke from the heavens and the whole world hears, it doesn’t necessarily mean the marriage will work. It only confirms that God is in it but the responsibility to work it out is ours.

But then at the end of it all, it is God’s grace. There were marriages that started well but ended badly and ones that started badly but ended well. It is the mercy of God not because of who you are or what you can do and that is an assurance that we have”

Stella sat up on her bed not able to sleep, after some minutes she knelt down to pray.

“Holy spirit of God, I surrender my will unto you. I ask that you guide me, teach me the right way to go. You know the end from the beginning, lead me. Help me to work on myself to be the perfect partner for the person you have prepared for me. Amen.”
